A permanent endowed Chair in human origins research in the memory of Professor Phillip V. Tobias with a supporting permanent postdoctoral Fellow attached to it. 

The PVT Chair in Palaeoanthropology has been set up to recognize and honour Tobias’ contribution to the field of human origins studies as well as his impact on the lives of the many students who were influenced by his teachings. 

Once endowed, the PVT Chair will host a Professorial level Chair in human origins studies at the University along with supporting an early career scientist in a postdoctoral position to be mentored by the PVT Chair, ensuring Tobias' legacy of teaching and mentoring will continue long into the future at Wits.
